Our Story
Where it all began.
We could have met a long time ago.
We grew up a block away from each other, went to the same high school, and lived in the same building for 4 years.
It took two dogs named Josie and Copper, a global pandemic, and a wager by Vanessa’s sister, Lauren, to bring us together.
A late-night conversation in our building lobby sparked by Vanessa’s determination to win a bet, revealed our shared past and hometown. Multiple slightly awkward conversations later took place when we crossed paths while walking our dogs.
One evening while Vanessa walked home with Lauren, dinner in-hand, our paths crossed again. Bob walked with Copper, crossing Adams Street stopping with them in front of the park.
Lauren made an indiscreet exit, allowing us to exchange phone numbers and arrange a date a few days later to walk our dogs together.
Dating during the pandemic was unique, and we had to be creative. Our second date was spent playing a board game…from separate condos, 16 floors apart, online. Bob won Vanessa’s heart that day when he dropped off homemade guacamole to her door before the game began.
We didn’t eat out at a restaurant for many months and took even longer to see a movie at a theater.
We bonded over our love of dogs, travel, hiking, camping, games nights, and spreadsheets (that’s right) and have been inseparable ever since.
Bob proposed on a trip to the Smoky Mountains and Asheville, NC in August 2021. After 3 days camping and hiking, we ended the trip staying at the Biltmore Estate.
The morning of the proposal, Bob carefully hid the ring in his pocket and tried to hide his nervous excitement. After lunch, we walked to the edge of the lawn and up the stairs to the overlook in front of the Biltmore.
Bob surprised Vanessa with the ring and, when she finally calmed down enough to focus on what was happening, he asked her to marry him, she said “Yes!”.
And the rest is history.
We’ve shared many great experiences, moments, and adventures together and can’t wait for what comes next.
